25 pesetas “Alfonsina” coins
The 25 peseta coin, known as the “Alfonsina”, is a key piece in the numismatic history of Spain. Emerging in the context of the Latin Monetary Union (LMU), this gold coin stands out for its unique weight and design, which set it apart from other European coins of the time. Although Spain was never a full member of the LMU, it adopted its economic model in 1868, introducing the peseta as the new monetary unit. The Alfonsina, minted with the effigy of King Alfonso XII, became one of the most popular and demanded coins, both nationally and internationally, appreciated for its artistic, historical and economic value.
